Happy Earth Day!! 40 years and going strong!

Happy Earth Day to all from the 30km crew!

Be sure to check out the Earth Day Indiana festival this weekend at White River State park where there will 130 environmental and conservation exhibits, great music, and good food! Earth Day Indiana sprouted it's roots back in 1990 when the people of Indianapolis decided to get together and hold an official Earth Day celebration.

Earth Day itself started in 1970 when a former senator from Wisconsin decided it was high time to give environmental activists a voice. On April 22, 1970 20 million people held teach-ins and protests to demonstrate for a healthier, cleaner and more sustainable Earth.

The Earth Day celebration downtown is sure to be a great time but don't forget that being sustainable is an every day practice. Here are a few tips to keep the green going all year long courtesy of the Daily Green!

"Stopping Thyme" - courtesy of Indianapolis Monthly's the Dish.

Wine Thyme, a gourmet food and wine grocery at 116th and Olio Road has been flying a "coming soon" banner for months, though it seems 'soon' is at risk of never coming. According to managing partner Jonathan Sadler, efforts to secure a liquor license were thwarted last December when a team of big-box liquor stores who hired a law firm and filed a motion to deny the license, citing a quota issue. The disagreement lies in whether or not Wine Thyme aims to be primarily a liquor store or a grocery store; Sadler says they plan to carry artisanal items, such as products from Trader's Point, as well as cutlery and pots and pans, in addition to wine, and do not see themselves as direct competitors of area liquor purveyors. Another hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 12 at the City-County building. "A store like ours would be great for Fishers," says Sadler. "We should be celebrated, not beaten down." Sign their online petition to voice your support.
