Taste Casting

So, if you're looking to score a free meal- this is by far the easiest way to do it. Simply join TasteCasting (free to join)- a new way to rate and review restaurants. Basically, Taste Casting is comprised of a group of testers who are invited to complimentary tastings at local restaurants. In return, Taste Casting asks the testers to utilize their social media outlets to talk about their experience. I mean, this is a no brainer.

30kMills went to a tasting at Scottys Brewhouse downtown- and we literally tasted everything on the menu. We fell in love with some food items that we normally wouldn't order (burger + peanut butter?)- and that, is the beauty behind Taste Casting. This is such a great outlet to branch out and try something new- free of charge!

The next event is at Donato's- (W. 86th Street) on September 28. They want Taste Casters to try their new hand tossed pizzas. Pizza party on a Monday night- oh yeah, you'll for sure find 30kMills there-- without a doubt.

Check out the Taste Casting website- they now have tastings in over 23 cities! Get out there and taste something new.

some like it H O T

If you haven't tried hot yoga or pilates yet...- you've got to go. 3okMillionaires recently discovered Invoke studio. Located on Ft.Wayne street in downtown Indy, this studio offers an unbelievably dynamic schedule packed with Vinyasa Yoga (a flowing yoga that ties movement with breath), Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates (IM=X) classes.

Invoke has been ranked #1 in City Search in both the yoga and pilates categories (rightfully so). This is definitely a studio you want to try out. Bursting with energy and good vibes, we highly recommend checking it out for yourself.

Cas, Marge, Amy and myself ventured to Invoke to try the HOT YOGA. (FIRST CLASS IS FREE!!) We all came prepared in our spandex, which is definitely a must. A big bottle of water and a towel are necessities to surviving a hot yoga class. You can purchase water ($1) if you forget to bring your own .. and you can borrow a clean towel for (.50). Invoke does have yoga mats you can borrow for free but, I would highly recommend bringing your own- as you will be sweating ...allll over it.

We really enjoyed sweating out our toxins while awkwardly laying in what the yogi's call the "dolphin pose." Hot vinyasa yoga burns about 500-600 calories an hour, depending on your body type and intensity. The room is all sorts of hot and humid so - don't make any plans following this class.

The best things about Invoke I've discovered so far:

1. community yoga ($5) ...talk about a bargain!!

2. reserve a spot ahead of time online (awesome!)

3. schedule is online and kept up to date

4. First saturday of the month- a free class is offered for beginners

5. innovative and trendy classes/ideas (i.e. a 2 hour vinyasa class with a DJ spinnin'hits in the background)

You'll for sure leave engergized and ready to change the world.

And then there was pie. Glorious pie.

A smattering of the 30kMs did a TasteCasting at Scotty's Brewhouse last night, myself included. Because I'm lazy, I'm just going to link this to my full review while I nosh on leftovers.

Do your inner sweet tooth a favor: Get dessert. Do your waist line a favor: Park far away.

This Goose Lays Golden Eggs!

Call off the search. We’ve found it.

That’s right. Indianapolis happens to be home to the perfect sandwich(s), found within a quaint, Euro-style market. But don’t be fooled by its homey exterior, inviting smells and bright open space, overflowing with natural sunlight, Goose the Market packs a mighty punch – one aimed right at your gut.

Located at 2503 N. Delaware St. (the “slanty” buildings as we like to call the colorful block), this produce/butcher/cheese/sandwich shop stocks nothing but the best and pulls from local sources for most everything it sells.

When fellow thousandaires, Maggie and Karlie, joined me to explore Goose, we thought we’d died and gone to 30KMil heaven. Husband and wife owners, Chris and Mollie Eley proudly serve up smoked meats and cured hams, bold, stinky cheeses, fresh meats including any and all kinds of swine, chicken, fowl, lamb and beef, and local in-season produce. Salivating yet?

Goose is most famous for The Batali, which was named the best sandwich in America by bon appetite magazine last year. You heard me. B-o-n a-p-p-e-t-i-t-e. These foodies aren’t messin’ around.

Since my first visit I’ve also enjoyed The Howard (sliced lamb with fresh pesto) and The Goose (prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and basil). These stacks are simple for sure, but when the freshest, most succulent meats and cheeses are sandwiched between a warm, crusty baguette, who needs all the extra hoopla?

Goose also provides a rotating selection of gelato and gourmet ice creams, including an adventurous bleu cheese ice cream from H2O sushi that will surprise you – in a good way. Just ask for a taste – the ever-smiling, knowledgeable staff behind the counter is happy to oblige.

For anyone who’s not yet sold, take a peek downstairs (yes, you’re allowed) and browse through Goose’s selection of hearty wine and beer, which includes a rack dedicated solely to Indiana brews.

Although this boutique market has every right to exude an air of snobbery, it does anything but. Goose the Market fills a void previously felt in Hoosier foodies’ heart of hearts (or stomach of stomachs rather), offering upscale food and drink, while balancing a welcoming feeling of accessibility for all. In short: What’s good for the “Goose” is definitely good for the gander. This Indianapolis gem can do no wrong!

italia!!

So this is definitely one of my favorite fests held in Indianapolis during the summer. Every year, the Holy Rosary Church downtown (close to Mass Ave)- hosts the Italian Festival. If you know me, you know that I am 100% in love with Italy. This is the real deal. Homemade meatballs, manicotti, cannolis, italian ice, gelato and more. If the system is the same as last year- tickets are purchased and act as cash at the stands. I highly recommend the meatball sandwiches and the manicotti. Nothing beats homemade rustic Italian cuisine. The fest starts tomorrow- June 12 and ends Saturday night- June 13. I think this is definitely worth the trip. Parking can be a drag- I would definitely recommend riding bikes, or parking far away and walking so you don't have to pay an attendant. Plan on leaving completely stuffed with goodness.

30K Profiles- DTM

We mentioned it before and it is finally time. Today we introduce a recurring series where we let you in on just what makes the 30K contributors tick.

We're kickin' off the 30Kmill Bios with none other than the Circle City's own, Downtown Marge. This sassy PR pro took the time to answer a few questions on what she does in Indy to keep it classy and budget friendly, all at the same time. Check it out! She's the bees knees.

HERE WE GO...

My motto is: What's a motto you?

Childhood ambition: To be a Broadway star. Don't ask me to belt out "On My Own" - I WILL do it.

Favorite cocktail: Impossible to choose, but if I had to (and apparently I do), I'd say a classic G&T with tons of lime or if we're drinking beer (and I normally am) I'd say Oberon or Two Hearted Ale. I also thoroughly enjoy a mojito when I'm feelin' sassy.

Favorite place to grab a cocktail: Anywhere they're sellin', I'm buyin'.

Cheap eats: The most obvious of choices - Yats. It's the best. Period.

Cheap thrill: Butler basketball games, walking the Canal at night, lunch from Au Bon on the Circle

Favorite thing about Indy in the summer: The vibe, man! Everyone is in a great mood and ready to party. Other favorites include Symphony on the Prairie, outdoor concerts/movies, Race weekend, the list goes on.

Fav type of music:Contrary to popular belief I do listen to more than just Hip Hop, but it is probably my fav. Anything with soul that I can nod my head to is what I'm about.

Looking forward to this summer: Anything and everything, just get me outdoors!

On my days off you’ll find me: Downtown, obviously.

You might be surprised to know: I hate surprises. Seriously.

Favorite websites: facebook.com, foodnetwork.com, textsfromlastnight.com, postsecret.com, overheardinnewyork.com, cnn.com, theonion.com

Best advice anyone has given me: My dad gave me two great pieces advice about the opposite sex. 1) Don't try and change 'em and 2) You do the pickin'.

Favorite party memory: There is hands down, no way I could answer this question. But they always involve dancing, friends and a fair amount of quoteables.

Favorite way to be green: A wise man once said, "it's not easy being green." Or was that a frog? Either way, my fav way to be green is turn off my air/heat and open up my windows (when Indiana weather allows). This also makes for some excellent mood music, as I live directly across the street from the Chatterbox. God, I love being Downtown.

Favorite weekend morning spot after a night of parties: Karlie's couch with a cup of Costa Rican coffee, Taste Cafe, Cafe Patachou

Thirtythousanddollarmillionaire is: the JAM

DPs make me feel: Like I'm in the blue zone. Look it up.

Favorite recipe: Roast Lemon Chicken, Fall Pears - both simple, both delicious. Check, please.
